The CMA Award Show is almost here!  Watching the previews on TV and reading all about it on the Hawk web site, you can't help but feel the excitement building for the 50th Anniversary of the CMA Awards, 8pm, Wednesday November 2nd on ABC, Newschannel 34 in Binghamton.

Promotional teases on ABC have been showing hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood and more recently, Little Big Town and Luke Bryan singing back-to-back.  On the Hawk, we have been talking about how the Country Music Association is pulling out all the stops this year for the 50th anniversary, inviting some of the legends of country music to this year's show, not just in the audience, but in the forefront of the show.

I am very excited about all the hoopla but there are some things I wish they would include in this year's award show and here they are:

  • More live music - Handing out awards is nice but people want to see their favorite stars sing the hits, not just new music. I would love to see George Strait sing.  Pretty please.  I miss George.
  • Legendary stars -  It's my hope that the legends that have made country music so great take center stage.  My wish list includes Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Kris Kristofferson.  Also, the CMA's should consider making a montage of past legends no longer with us like Waylon, George, Tammy, Johnny, Merle, Conway, and the list could go on forever.
  • 90's artists - What ever happened to what I consider the golden age of country music-- the 1990's?  I would absolutely love to see Clint Black, Suzy Bogguss, John Berry, Deana Carter, Patty Loveless, Clint Black, Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Diamond Rio, Travis Tritt and more.
  • Showcase Garth Brooks - If it weren't for this man, country music would not be the hot music format of 2016.  Let him sing his excellent new song, 'Baby, Let's Lay Down and Dance' mixed with a montage of his biggest hits.

How about you?  What would you like to see at this year's award show?  Please feel free to leave your comments below.

I know it's not possible to do it all in 3 hours, but if the CMA is listening, thank you for your careful planning and for making your 50th a special night to celebrate.  One thing is certain, November 3rd will be a night to remember.
