For as long as we've known each other, my husband and I have done our best to make birthdays fun for each other. There was the year that my husband filled my office with over 100 balloons and the other year when he collected big trash bags of shredded paper for months and dumped all of it in my office. And then there was the year that I surprised him by having the National Aquarium visit our workplace with all sorts of fun creatures.

But this year- this year was my all time favorite because, in the midst of the chaos that we call our lives, my husband still found time to show his creativity and romantic side in a majorly big way. I really wasn't expecting Jay to pull anything off this year because he had to leave early for work and because our lives have been all sorts of crazy lately, but I was in for a major surprise.

I called Jay on my way home and he told me to go into the house through the front door, but to be sure to record video as I was walking in. I admit that I was a little scared and the first thought that went through my head was that he better not have turned our house into a disaster zone. We have a toddler and it's hard enough to keep our house somewhat presentable without throwing in other stuff. I'd spent the night before cleaning and the last thing I wanted to do was spend the next several months cleaning up confetti (yes, confetti happened one year and I speak from experience when I say that it's awful and you continue to find it months later in the most random places).

As soon as I walked to the front porch, I saw a sign and it read "Be Our...." I opened the door and saw a second sign, which read "Guest." As I walked into the living room, my sweet toddler stood before me, decked out in a tie, chapeau, and mustache with a rose in his mouth. Scattered all over the floor were rose petals and on the television, the scene from 'Beauty and the Beast' where the staff serves Belle a meal was playing.

I've been a fan of 'Beauty and the Beast' since Disney released it in 1991 when I was 11 years old and I've been so looking forward to seeing the live action version when it comes out next month. Jay took all of that into consideration and presented me with an enchanting 'Beauty and the Beast' themed lunch, complete with a pink chair at the table, and our very own Mr. Cogsworth. He even remembered the single rose in a glass dome. Oh, and Jay's birthday gift to me? An actual date night which will include seeing the live-action version of the movie when it hits theaters. I truly am a loved and a blessed woman.
