The Kirkwood Inspiration Playground, an all-inclusive, handicap-accessible playground, celebrated its grand opening on Saturday, October 21, and in doing so, helped to fulfill a longstanding need for inclusive play spaces in the community. With its innovative design and commitment to accessibility, this playground will make a profound impact on the lives of individuals in Kirkwood and beyond.

A Playground Beyond Boundaries

The Kirkwood Inspiration Playground offers families a safe, fun, and inclusive environment, where children and adults of all abilities can come together and engage in a wide range of activities. Unlike traditional playgrounds, this all-inclusive playground is designed to cater to individuals with varying physical, emotional, sensory, and social needs.

Designed for All Abilities

The Kirkwood Inspiration Playground covers a spacious area inside Kirkwood Veterans River Park. The layout includes both ground-level and elevated play spaces, ensuring that children of all abilities can access and engage in various activities. The design includes a variety of play elements, such as therapeutic swings, regular swings, inclusive whirls, a play structure with slides, arc gliders, and sensory elements. These features were carefully chosen to provide an inclusive play experience for children with diverse needs.

The Kirkwood Inspiration Playground would not be possible without the dedication and support of Friends of Kirkwood Community. This nonprofit organization has advocated for the needs of the community and spearheaded fundraising initiatives to make this project a reality.
