A new brewery near Columbus, Ohio, was recently vandalized but the owners were able to turn the crime into something positive for the community.

The Land Grant Brewery, opened just over a month ago and features a rustic storefront made of wood from a 19th century barn. The company founders hand-painted their white logo on the wood – and were disappointed when they found that vandals had smeared splotches of red, yellow, green, and black paint on the sign.

But instead of completely flipping out, they decided to turn the situation into a positive. They turned the image of their defaced building and designing a T-shirt to sell – with 100% of the proceeds going to two nonprofit community groups.

“We wanted to take this careless act and use it to shine a light on some of the folks working towards a positive end,” the owners said on their website.
