According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, only 620,000 of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II were alive in 2016. Keep in mind that statistic was relevant in 2016. This is a new year, and that number has dwindled substantially.

The Honor Flight Network is on a mission to do whatever it takes to fulfill the dreams of our surviving veterans and to help our heroes travel absolutely free to see their memorial in Washington D.C. before it's too late for them to do so.

Sending our veterans to their memorials is free for the veterans, but doesn't come without a steep price for those who organize the trip.  According to the Twin Tiers Honor Flight, just one Honor Flight trip can cost upwards of $70,000 and each honor flight is funded completely through donations (which are tax-deductible).

The Twin Tiers Honor Flight would like to take more local veterans to their memorials this year, but to do so- they'll need to raise a hunk of change and so they're hosting a spaghetti dinner to kick off their fundraising efforts.

The Twin Tiers Honor Flight spaghetti dinner will be held on Sunday, May 21st from 3pm-6pm at McGirk's Irish Pub in Binghamton. A donation of $10 per adult and $5 for veterans and seniors over the age of 62 is suggested. Kids 12 and under are free. At the spaghetti dinner, there will also be a bake sale, 50/50 raffle, and basket raffles.

The Hawk Morning Show stands behind the Twin Tiers Honor Flight and their mission to recognize those who so selflessly fought for our freedoms. In an attempt to help the Twin Tiers Honor Flight secure much-needed funds, we've donated an in studio experience for the Twin Tiers Honor Flight to auction off during their spaghetti dinner on May 21st.

If you bid on and win the in-studio experience, you'll join the Hawk Morning Show during our Morning Show on the morning of Wednesday, June 7th or Wednesday, June 14th (your choice) for an hour and will have the opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes. You'll also get to go on the air with us and we'll throw in a swag bag.

So, if you've always wanted to be part of the fun of the Hawk Morning Show, and if you want to support our troops, this is the perfect way to do both!

If you've got any questions about the spaghetti dinner, auction, or how you can make a donation to the Twin Tiers Honor Flight, please reach out to Madlyn Lopke at 607-237-5396.
