There's nothing like ice skating in the middle of Winter.  With the freezing temperatures, conditions are ideal for outside skating.  Local parks departments are opening up temporary ice skating at area parks this weekend.

Highland Park in Endwell is one of those local parks that offers free skating this weekend.  Daytime skating on the ball field will be Saturday and Sunday from 9am-4pm.  Town of Union officials warn to skate at your own risk.  They are hoping to have the night skating up for a Monday 9am-8pm fee skate.  Temperatures are expected to be in the 30's Monday so the conditions should be perfect for family skating.

If you like to skate indoors, there are a number of options including:

SUNY Broome offers a full schedule of open ice skating at the BCC Ice Center, including this weekend, Saturday January 10th at 1:30pm and 8:45pm, also Sunday at 1:15pm.

Chenango Ice Rink on River Road offers select times for indoor ice skating.

Enjoy your weekend and happy skating.
