Looking for something to do around the community here are a few local happenings.

 

  • Join the “Fight for Cara Fall Fundraiser”  Saturday November 11th from 2p to 6p at Saint Michael’s Recreation Center, 296 Clinton Street, Binghamton, from 2 to 6pm. Ten dollars per person. Children under 5 are free. Dinner, bake sale, raffles, door prizes and entertainment. All funds raised will go to help Cara Green in her fight against breast cancer.
  •  Doug’s Fish Fry will be at Tractor Supply at 154 Vestal Parkway West, Vestal, Wednesday, November 15th from 11AM-6PM to benefit Willow’s Wings, a non-profit animal sanctuary in Maine, New York. There will also be a bake sale and basket raffles to support the organization.
  •  Lourdes Hospice will hold training classes for volunteers, November 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th from 9am to 4:30pm at the Hospice Office, 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal. To reserve your place in the class call 607-584-9159.
  •  The 16th Annual Taste of the Best fundraising event to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Western Broome Family Center is November 13th at 6pm at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church Hall, 701 West Main Street, Endicott. Hors d’oeuvres and desserts from area chefs plus auctions. For ticket information call 607-754-0225.
  •  The Tabernacle United Methodist Church will hold a Silent Auction, November 11th from 6 to 10pm. Six dollar admission. Proceeds benefit church programs.
  •  A Veteran’s Day Ceremony will be held November 11th at 11am at Veterans Park, Main and Arch Streets, Johnson City. Join American Legion Post 758 and VFW Post 2332 in a ceremony re-dedicating the World War 2 monument.
  •  The Owego and Tioga/Nichols Area Lions Clubs are holding a Holiday Craft Fair, November 11th from 10am to 2pm at Tioga Central High School, 27 5th Avenue, Tioga Center. For more information call 607-687-3511.
  •  First United Methodist Church of Kirkwood, 255 Main Street, Kirkwood, hosts a chicken and biscuit dinner, November 11th from 4:30 to 6pm. Family style.
  •  American Legion Post 1305 hosts a Turkey Raffle, November 11th from 6 to 10pm.
  •  Our Savior Lutheran Church in Endwell will hold a Veteran’s Service, November 12th at 10am.
  •  The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is sponsoring an osteoporosis prevention exercise program at Vestal Senior Center beginning November 16th. For more information or to register call 607-778-2411.
  •  Saint John’s School is having a book fair at Barnes & Noble, Vestal, November 17th and 18th from 10am to 8pm. A percentage of anything purchased during those hours goes to Saint John’s School for the purchase of books and teaching supplies. Activities both days.
  •  Help the Scleroderma Foundation Tri-State Chapter online fundraising campaign by donating fifty dollars to buy a piece of the Foundation’s virtual tri-state map. Visit we are tri state dot org.

  • The West Corners Lions Club will be hosting a Turkey Party on Saturday, November 18th at Our Lady of Good Counsel on 701 W. Main Street in Endicott. Tickets for this event are $9.
  • On Saturday, November 18th there will be a benefit to support Ed Normile's hard fight with Stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma at the West Windsor Fire Company from 1 to 5 PM. There will be live music, food, and a raffle. All proceeds will go towards medical bills for chemo and radiation.

  • The Church Women United's "Community Mitten Tree" is standing in the NBT Bank of Oxford on 10 North Canal Street again this year to be decorated by donating hats, slippers, mittens, toys, and books for the Community Christmas Baskets. This drive will run until the first Friday in December.
  • Oxford High School is hosting its fourth annual Craft and Vendor fair on Saturday, November 18th from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Oxford Academy High School gymnasium. Admission is just $1 and includes a single door prize entry.
  • The Friends of Broome County Public Library will hold a half-off book sale on Saturday, November 18th from 9 AM to 3 PM. For more information, please call the Library at 607-778-6400.
  • The American Legion Post 974 Auxiliary on 119th Street in Whitney Point will be hosting a chicken and biscuit dinner on November 18th from 5 to 7 PM. Adults pay $8, veterans pay $7, children age 5 to 12 pay $5, and children under the age of 5 eat for free. All proceeds go toward purchase of Christmas gifts for children in the area.
  • The Apalachin UMW Fall Craft Fair will be held on Saturday, November 18th from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Apalachin United Methodist Church.
  • The Endicott Elks Lodge will be hosting an "all you can eat" breakfast buffet on November 19th from 8 to 11 AM. Adults pay $8, kids 5 to 12 pay $4, and children 4 and under eat for free.
  • The Broome County Library Knitting Group meets Tuesday, November 21st at 5:30pm. Open to knitters of all skill levels. For more information call 607-778-6451.
