Most fairs and festivals in our area were canceled last year because of the pandemic but there was one that wasn't and it's from my hometown of Warren Center, Pa. It's the 52nd annual Warren Township Volunteer Fire Departments Annual Field Days.

My dad has been a volunteer fireman for them all of my life and I think it's great that their biggest fundraiser of the year happens during Father's Day weekend. It begins on Friday at 5 p.m. with food available.

Warren Center Firemen's Field Days

They won't be serving BBQ chicken dinners for sit-down dining again this year. but their world-famous chicken BBQ (I'm biased but it's true) will be available for take-out. Friday night ends with fireworks at dark.

On Saturday, they will have their cornhole tournament with sign-ups at noon and start-up at 1 p.m. The midway opens at 3 p.m. but there will be no parade again this year.

For me, it's like going back in time. As a kid, I would save my money all year long just to spend at the Warren Center Field Days. Now, my daughter, Tara has been saving up her dimes for the Dime Pitch, so she can bring home her glass treasures.

She usually brings home around 25 glasses and she donates a few of them back. The dime pitch is how I got a gift for Traci. She is a Philadelphia Eagles fan and when she started working with me, I wanted to give her a welcome aboard gift, so I gave her a Philadelphia Eagles glass...that I won playing Dime Pitch from the field days.

A keepsake for her at an inexpensive price for me and I supported the fire department at the same time. Win-win-win. The Field Days was also one of the places that I got my start as an announcer but that will be a story for another day.

So whether it's a box of homemade cupcakes, a goldfish, or a big box of glass treasures, it's family fun for everyone and you'll be helping out the Warren Township Volunteer Fire Company.
