I'm very proud of my kids and the thing that makes me the most proud is their love of volunteerism. They volunteer to do many things without complaint or compensation.

If you have a heart to volunteer but not sure where to start, the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park has just the place for you. Whether you're new to volunteering or like my daughters, you've been doing it for years, this is your opportunity.

Their Volunteer Open House is taking place this Saturday, January 12th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in their Education Center in the lower zoo parking lot. Come and learn about the different volunteer opportunities that are available including gardening, maintenance, special events and the animal ambassador programs.

You can volunteer for a couple hours a month or several times a week, they will find a program that'll fit you schedule. Volunteer representatives will be on hand to answer any of your questions.

For more information about the Binghamton Zoo's Volunteer Open House, you can contact volunteer coordinator, Catherine Dietz at (607) 724-5461 ext. 235 or e-mail her at  cdietz@rossparkzoo.com.

Here's your chance to help America's 5th oldest zoo and help to spread the message about conservation in our community. My daughters will tell you that volunteering has it's own rewards and in ways that you won't believe. Here's your chance to find out for yourself.
