Upstate New Yorkers Are Doomscrolling More Than You Think
Upstate New Yorkers are spending a lot of time watching videos online and the numbers show that we’re just as hooked as the big cities downstate, even if we don’t like to admit it.
Poughkeepsie and Buffalo Top the Upstate List
Among Upstate cities, Poughkeepsie takes first place, averaging 55 videos watched per person every day. Not far behind is Buffalo at 45 videos daily, showing that Western New Yorkers is definitely keeping their thumbs busy.
Syracuse Is Right in the Middle of the Pack
Syracuse lands right in the middle, with residents watching around 20 videos a day. Whether it’s college sports clips, weather forecasts, or political hot takes, Central New Yorkers clearly know their way around the scroll.

Binghamton Rounds Out the List
At the bottom of the top ten is Binghamton, but even they are still watching 14 videos per person every single day. So whether you're sitting in traffic on the Parkway or winding down after a Spiedie, chances are you’re still sneaking in a few TikToks or YouTube shorts.
What Are We Watching Upstate?
Across all Upstate cities, politics is the number one category, followed by TV clips, sports highlights, and finance advice. Basically, we’re bouncing between stressing ourselves out and trying to get our life together all in one scroll session.
Experts Say Too Much Screen Time Can Mess With Your Head
Health experts warn that watching too much heavy content especially nonstop politics can lead to higher anxiety (Amen to that), poor sleep, and that feeling of “I need to get off my phone…but one more video won’t hurt.” Their advice? Set limits, step away from the screen, and do something real like going outside or talking to an actual human being.
Upstaters Love Their Phones
Scrolling isn’t all bad. Lots of people are watching workout tips, news updates, or learning something new. But if you’ve ever caught yourself watching three different videos about raccoons breaking into dumpsters and thought, “How did I get here?” you’re in good company.
Upstate New York is officially full of proud doomscrollers. We just might need to set the phone down once in a while… or at least switch to dog videos.
