Are you someone who likes to stay up late? If you live in New York, you are not alone. A new survey found that New York are some of the biggest night owls in the country. New York ranked third, behind only Montana and Nebraska.

Many New Yorkers Stay Up Past Midnight

The survey from Coventry Direct found that almost 60% of New Yorkers go to bed after midnight on work nights. On days off, that jumps to 72%. Both numbers are about 20% higher than the national average. New York City may be called the city that never sleeps, but it looks like people across the state also enjoy staying up late.

More Americans Call Themselves Night Owls

Coventry Direct surveyed more than 2,400 Americans about their sleep habits. About 43% called themselves night owls. 38% said they were early birds. Even though more people said they were night owls, 56% said they feel most awake in the morning. Only 29% said they feel most awake at night.

Some People Need Time to Wake Up

Not everyone wakes up ready to take on the day. About 36% said they enjoy mornings once they are fully awake. One in five said the morning is when they feel their best. Another 19% said they need some time before they can think clearly and get moving.

Nighttime Can Feel More Peaceful

For some people, the evening is when they finally have time to relax. 30% said they feel more awake or creative at night. 17% said nighttime is when they feel most like themselves. Over 25% said they enjoy the evening but do not often stay up very late.

Montana Has the Most Night Owls

Montana took the top spot for night owls, followed by Nebraska and New York with Oklahoma and West Virginia finishing fourth and fifth. Missouri ranked first for early birds. Arizona, Washington, Vermont and Idaho rounded out the top five. The survey only included 48 states because Alaska and Wyoming didn't have give enough answers. You can see the complete list here.
