Free Senior Safety Day Coming to Endwell
Older adults can learn how to stay safe at home and behind the wheel during Senior Safety Day in Endwell. The free event will be held Tuesday, September 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Broome West Senior Center. The center is located at 2801 Wayne Street.
Learn How to Stay Safe at Home
First, there will be a presentation called “Senior Safety: Inside and Outside the Home” will run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The program will cover ways to prevent falls at home, basic medical information, pedestrian safety and the health benefits of Tai Chi. Everyone will also have an opportunity to learn how prescription drugs can affect driving and how to stay safer inside a vehicle.
Make Sure Your Vehicle Fits You
After that is over, stick around for a free CarFit event that will be held in the parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CarFit helps older drivers check whether their vehicles are properly adjusted for their bodies. This can become important because our vision, strength, flexibility and range of motion change over time.
Trained Workers Will Check Your Vehicle
Here's some more good news, every participant will meet with a trained CarFit technician. The technician will complete a 12-point safety check and give suggestions for a safer and more comfortable fit. This will include the position of the driver’s seat, steering wheel, mirrors, seat belt and headrest.

Registration Is Encouraged
You are invited to attend the Senior Safety presentation, the CarFit event or both. Walk-ins are welcome, but advance registration is encouraged. Call 607-778-2807 to register.
