Trial Date Set for Endicott Man Accused in Crash Into Sheriff’s Vehicle
A Broome County Judge is setting an August 12 trial date for an Endwell man accused of driving drunk and hitting a Broome County Sheriff’s vehicle while driving the wrong way on Route 17 in Vestal earlier this year.
34-year-old Daniel Butash is charged with 11 counts including felony assault, aggravated vehicular assault, reckless endangerment and drunk driving in the high-speed, head-on collision with the Sport Utility Vehicle that left Deputy Kristy Botsford seriously injured February 1.
Deputy Botsford was pinned in the patrol vehicle for more than an hour in sub-zero temperatures and suffered knee and ankle injuries.
If the case goes to trial and Butash is convicted, he could be looking at over 20 years in prison.
