Travel Advisories In Effect During Winter Storm
As of 5 p.m. on Sunday, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the vast majority of the area, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.
Both the Broome, Tioga, and Cortland County Sheriff's Offices have issued travel advisories for Sunday, following freezing rain and sleet which fell during the day.
Travel advisories do not equal a travel ban, but officials say that anyone that goes out on the roads should use extreme caution.
Authorities say numerous roads have been reported as very slippery over the course of Sunday. Around ten cars were involved in a crash on Interstate 81 in Castle Creek Sunday morning.
Additionally, travel restrictions on highways in Pennsylvania go into effect early Monday morning, according to a report by WBNG.
National Weather Service Binghamton forecasters say snow is expected to become widespread after midnight into Monday, and should result in between 8 and 18 inches of accumulation by Tuesday morning for most of the area.
