Tractor Trailer Fire Detours I81 Traffic Between Whitney Point & Castle Creek

Broome County Emergency Services officials report responders from the Sheriff's office, New York State Police, medical and fire crews and the New York State Department of Transportation are working at the scene of a tractor trailer fire on Interstate 81.

The blaze in the southbound lanes between Whitney Point (exit 8) and Castle Creek (exit 7) was reported at 10:09 a.m. July 30th.

An hour later, southbound traffic was being detoured onto Route 11 between Whitney Point and Hinmann's Corners (Upper Front Street, Town of Chenango) while traffic was also slowing as motorists noticed the smoke and flames in the opposite lane.

Dispatchers had no early word of injuries and said it was believed there were no hazardous materials contained in the tractor trailer.
