Beth Konicki, a school counselor at Whitney Point High School, has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to the field of counseling by being selected as a New York State Master Counselor.

Konicki is one of only two counselors chosen in the latest Southern Tier cohort, bringing the total count of NYS Master Counselors in the region to six since the State University of New York program expanded its scope to include counselors last year.

Mrs. Konicki's journey toward becoming a Master Counselor was sparked during her undergraduate years at SUNY Brockport, where she discovered her passion for learning about various career paths while working in the school's Career Development Center. This passion for career exploration was complemented by her innate desire to assist students in uncovering their own aspirations for the future – a drive that led her to pursue a career in school counseling.

Now in her ninth year as a counselor at Whitney Point High School, Beth Konicki loves the opportunity to engage with students and support them in their academic and personal journeys. She expressed her enthusiasm for the reciprocal learning environment that exists within the high school setting, emphasizing that she gains as much insight and knowledge from the students as they do from her.

In a statement reflecting her joy in working with students, Mrs. Konicki shared, "I love working in the high school because I feel like I have just as much to learn from the students as they do from me." Her selection as a New York State Master Counselor not only honors her dedication to education but also signifies her commitment to continuous improvement in guiding students toward discovering their passions and achieving their goals.

Being designated as a Master Counselor opens up new avenues for Mrs. Konicki to develop innovative strategies that further enrich the counseling experience for her students. She looks forward to leveraging the benefits of networking and collaborating with other counseling professionals to enhance her skills and explore fresh ideas in the field.
