10 years is a decade, 100 years is a century and 200 years is a bicentennial, so how long would 175 be? Is there even such a word? Yep, it's demisemiseptcentennial and it means anything that's associated with or related to, the commemoration of an event that happened 175 years before.

So the Demisemiseptcentennial committee is planning many activities throughout the year. It'll be filled with some good old-fashioned family fun and in 2023, we all could use some of that.

The Town Of Maine Celebrates Its 175th Year

In true celebratory mode, they'll continue the 175 celebration during Memorial Day weekend. It'll begin on Friday, May 26th with the return of the Gong Show. If you have a 3-minute PG act, here is your chance to perform in front of a live audience. This could be my chance to take my disappearing foot trick to the next level...or maybe not.

There will be a beard-growing contest on Saturday, May 27th but you don't need to wait, you can grow your beard now. There are many different categories including the "Why'd I bother?" beard.

There will be bathtub races, the "Maine" event, cornhole (for you younger whippersnappers) and more. The weekend will end with their annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29th.

Our world has changed a lot in the last several years, so it's nice to take a small step back in time and enjoy the simpler things in life.
