Do you sometimes feel like you're living in an alternate reality? I think most people, even those who have continued to go to work each day through this pandemic as I have, will agree that the months and days have blurred together.

It wasn't until yesterday when I was flipping through my calendar that I realized the next month is almost here. June. The month my family will take our vacation, or maybe not.
The coronavirus has put a kink in all sorts of life plans, including the vacation plans of many Americans.

My family was looking forward to a week away at our secluded lakeside cabin in Canada where there's no cell service, internet, television, or even running water. When we say we're going to the cabin to disconnect, we're literally disconnecting.

Unfortunately for my family and for the thousands of other Americans who head north each summer to visit their cabins or go on vacation, it looks like we're going to have to wait longer to cross the border.  The U.S.- Canada borders were closed to non-essential travel on March 20 and were expected to re-open today, May 21, but now they'll remain closed until June 21 according to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Once the borders open back up to non-essential travel there will be restrictions. In a press conference, Prime Minister Trudeau said that he expects strong measures to be put in place including requiring a 14-day quarantine, medical checks, and even tracking people entering Canada.

Although I don't fault the Canadian government for wanting to take extra precautions to keep their citizens safe, for families such as mine, a 14-day quarantine after crossing the border from the U.S. into Canada simply isn't feasible because we don't have enough vacation days to hunker down for two weeks. So, it looks like our vacation will have to be stateside this year.
