The Truth About How Much Money Young Adults Have Tucked Away
My husband and I have always been aware of our finances, but since we recently decided that it's time to get serious about buying a house and planting roots, we've gotten hardcore about every penny that comes in and goes out.
Like most people, we don't struggle, but we have just enough to get by. We pay our bills on time, put food on the table, and whatever is left isn't that much.
Gone are the days when most people have big savings accounts, and bank accounts with a nice cushion for a life fall.
According to GoBankingRates, people who are between the ages of 18 and 24 have less than $1,000 tucked away in a savings account. And if you think that people just a bit older have saved more than their younger peers, think again, Most adults between 25 and 34 also have less than $1,000 in their savings accounts.
So why are the numbers so low? Experts say what anyone between the ages of 18 and 40 will tell you- student debt is astronomical and the cost of housing is insane. Experts also say that younger people don't really see the point in saving $10-$15 per paycheck.
