The Top 5 Things That Happened In County Music in 2012

So many, many things happened this year in the world of country music that it was hard to pick which to recap and which to let slide off into obscurity.  Here are my top 5 picks of things that happened in country music this year:

#1.) A drunk Randy Travis walked into a store in his birthday suit, crashed his car and threatened to kill cops:  

2012 was not a good year for Randy Travis.  His first arrest of the year was on February 6^th when he was nailed for public intoxication while sitting in his car with an open bottle of wine.  Oopsie!  Oh, but wait.  There’s more.  On August 7th, Randy got out of his mind wasted and walked naked  into a convenience store and demanded free cigarettes.  The clerk turned him down so Randy got into his car and drove away.  A little while later police got a call that a man was lying in the middle of the road.  When they got there they found Randy, naked and bruised.  He'd crashed his car through some barricades and then, somehow, ended up lying on the road. So, obviously, Randy was arrested for DUI, but just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, it did. Randy found himself in some steaming hot water because he threatened to shoot and kill the cops who arrested him. That got him a felony retaliation charge, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, and a $10,000 fine.  Oh, and yep, there’s more.  On August 24th, Randy was cited (but not arrested) for assaulting a guy who was arguing with his estranged wife.  Turns out  that woman is also Randy's fiancée.  Randy was charged with a Class C misdemeanor.  And THEN the next morning, police found an abandoned, tipped over truck in a Texas field that was registered to Randy.  His attorney got everyone to believe that a ranch hand was driving the truck so no charges were filed.   Oy vey!

#2.)  Wynonna has serious family issues. And her new husband lost his leg in a cycle crash:

The year started off on a positive note for Wynonna Judd when she announced her engagement.  Yay! They got married on June 10^th.  Double yay! But then a few weeks later Wynonna told "Us Weekly" that she did NOT invite her mom Naomi or sister Ashley to the wedding.   Boo!  The excuse was that she didn’t want them hovering over her.  Really???   On August 18th tragedy struck when Wynonna's husband Cactus Moser was involved in a serious motorcycle accident.  He survived, but had to have his leg amputated.   That’s sad.

#3.)  Jason Aldean was caught "messing around" with "American Idol" contestant Brittany Kerr:

Tisk, tisk Mr. Aldean!  Back in September, TMZ posted photos of MARRIED Jason Aldean wrapped around former "American idol" contestant Brittany Kerr at a nightclub. They were kissing and hugging and groping and all that gushy stuff. But then a video surfaced showing Jason leaving the club on his own with some buddies.  Almost immediately, the spinning and apologies began.  Jason  did his best to sweep things under the rug on his FB page claiming it was just an alcohol-infused moment and nothing else happened.  Uh, huh.

#4.)  Taylor Swift Dated a Kennedy, crashed a wedding, broke up with a Kennedy and then rebounded with a guy from One Direction.

When photos came out of Taylor Swift on the 4^th of July with the  Kennedy family in Cape Cod people guessed it was because she was dating 18-year-old Patrick Schwarzenegger, but noooo.  Taylor was hooking up with grandson of RFK, Conor Kennedy.  Towards the end of August things got weird when the two of them crashed a Kennedy family wedding after being told to stay away.   Sometime in October the fairytale ended and we all found out that Conor and Taylor had broken up.  But we all know Taylor doesn’t understand the concept of living the single life and on November 15^th, we learned she was dating Harry Styles of the boy band, One Direction.

#5.)  Kellie Pickler shaved her head:

Proving to people around the world what an awesome chick she is, Kelly Pickler shaved her head completely bald to support a childhood friend with breast cancer.  Kudos!
