Drivers are encountering traffic pattern changes as a result of a major construction job near Binghamton City Hall.

Work on the $2.2 million State Street Gateway project began three weeks ago. It's expected to be completed in about four months.

Drivers are being slowed by lane closures and travel restrictions as the construction continues on State and Hawley streets.

Although the main entrances to the police and fire departments are in the work zone, there apparently have been no significant problems with operations.

Parking for official vehicles on the west side of City Hall is not available while the construction project is underway.

The work includes new pavement, sidewalks, bike lanes and pedestrian crossings.

New signals for vehicles and pedestrians will be installed at the intersection near the governmental plaza.
