The NWS has issued a tornado watch until 8:00pm EST.

The watch area includes Binghamton, Cortland, Delhi, Deposit, Elmira, Endicott, Factoryville, Forest City, Great Bend, Hallstead, Hancock, Hawley, Hazleton, Honesdale, Ithaca, Johnson City, Kingston, Lanesboro, Liberty, Milford, Monticello, Montrose, Mountain Top, Nanticoke, Narrowsburg, New Milford, Nicholson, Norwich, Oneonta, Owego, Scranton, Sidney, South Fallsburg, Springfield, Stamford, Tunkhannock, Walton, Waverly, Waymart, and Wilkes-Barre.

Primary threats include the following -

  • A couple tornadoes possible
  • Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely
  • Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible

A fast-moving line of thunderstorms will affect parts of Central/Eastern NY. These storms will include strong low/mid level winds that are capable of damaging property. The threat of a tornado or two is also possible with these storms.

Remember that a tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
