Another round of slow moving thunderstorms is expected to build throughout the afternoon and evening. These storms could bring heavy downpours that raise the risk for flash flooding, especially in areas that already saw a soaking on Sunday.

Flood Watch in Effect from Noon

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch starting at 12 p.m. today through the evening. With the ground already saturated from recent rain, it won’t take much for flash flooding to develop in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. If you see water covering the road, don’t try to drive through it, “turn around, don’t drown.”

Strong Storms Could Turn Severe

In addition to the flooding risk, some of today’s thunderstorms could become severe. The main concern? Damaging winds. Be sure to secure loose outdoor items and stay weather aware, especially during your afternoon commute or evening plans.

The good news is that this active weather pattern isn’t sticking around for long. A front moving through the region is expected to push the rain out tonight, leaving calmer conditions behind.
