The Sherburne-Earlville Central School District is the latest to suspend athletics and extracurricular activities until December.

According to a press release statement on Monday Superintendent Robert Berson said “We are pausing athletics and co-curricular activities to allow time and consideration for all relevant factors, such as state aid and clear guidance during the COVID-19 health crisis,”

Benson also said that New York State school districts may have their state aid budgets reduced by 20 percent this school year.

Many athletic programs and scholastic events have been canceled due to the pandemic, and Benson says “We will re-evaluate the situation in December 2020.”

Many parents are disappointed by the suspensions, and students will have to find other activities, as we all go through this national pandemic that has stalled athletic programs across the country.

NYSPHSAA’s condensed schedule begins with Winter Sports on January 4, followed by Fall Sports Season two on March 1, and Spring Sports on April 19.
