Rumble Ponies “Voice”Steps Down
The "Voice" of Binghamton baseball for the past eight seasons is stepping down. Tim Heiman, the popular Binghamton Rumble Ponies Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations, is moving from the baseball broadcasting booth to take a mechanical engineering position in the area with BAE Systems. Rumble Ponies games are aired on News Radio 1290 WNBF. His final Rumble Ponies broadcast is this Wednesday, May 1. He holds an engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He will continue working for Binghamton University broadcasting numerous sporting events on ESPN.
Heiman joined the Binghamton Mets in 2011 as a Broadcast and Media Relations Assistant working with then play-by-play broadcaster Matt McCabe. When McCabe left to pursue a law degree Heiman took over as the team's lead broadcaster and has been in that position ever since making the transition from Binghamton Mets to Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
In September 2018 Heiman was recognized for his superior work by Ballpark Digest who named him Minor League Baseball's Broadcaster of the Year. He has broadcast over 1,000 Binghamton baseball games over his eight seasons.
Taking over the for Heiman is Jacob Wilkins, a native of East Meadow, NY. He has spent the past six years working for WFAN in New York City. He is a graduate of Penn State University and spent two seasons broadcasting Hudson Valley Renegades games and more recently has broadcast LIU Brooklyn games.
Tim Heiman will be a guest on News Radio 1290 WNBF on Tuesday morning at 8:20 A.M. and talk about his career move and what's ahead in his future. You can also hear the interview on wnbf.com and on WNBF's free mobile app.
