New Yorkers Are Searching for Weight Loss Drugs More Than Most Americans

New Yorkers seem to have a growing interest in weight loss drugs. A new study found that people in New York search for drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro more often than people in most other states.

New York Ranks Eighth in the Country

New York placed eighth among states searching for weight loss drugs the most during the summer. Researchers counted an average of 1,786 online searches per month for every 100,000 New York residents. That is almost 10% higher than the national average.

What Are New Yorkers Searching For?

Ozempic is one of the most searched drug names in New York. Residents are also looking for information about Mounjaro, tirzepatide, and GLP-1 drugs. Some of these medicines are used to treat Type 2 diabetes. Certain drugs in this group are also approved to help people lose weight.

Searches Increase During the Summer

The study found that searches for weight loss drugs are 45% higher during the summer than during the rest of the year. They looked at searches made from May through September. They adjusted the numbers based on each state’s population so large and small states could be compared fairly.

Florida Takes the Top Spot

Florida had the most searches, with an average of 1,964 per month for every 100,000 residents. Nevada came in second, followed by Texas. New York ranked ahead of North Carolina and California.
