Republicans Call for Investigation/ Governor Cuomo’s Resignation
New York State Senator Fred Akshar of Binghamton (R) is among state lawmakers calling for the Department of Justice and State Attorney General Letitia James to investigate Governor Andrew Cuomo and his administration following allegations of a coverup in reporting the true deaths in nursing homes at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some lawmakers are also calling for the Governor to be stripped of his emergency powers or to resign following a February 1 report that indicated the administration deliberately underreported nursing home deaths.
New York’s Republican conference is also calling for the resignation of state Health Commissioner Doctor Howard Zucker.
Senate Minority Leader Robert Ortt is among those spearheading the effort on the state level along with Assembly Minority Leader William Barclay.
Newly sworn-in U.S. Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, another Republican, is requesting the U.S. Department of Justice look into the matter.
Democratic leaders Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins have met with other party officials to discuss the report and calls for investigations.
