Dallas police officer Damon Cole has proven that Superman does exist in real life.

In addition to being a police officer, Cole is a Dad and a volunteer for a group called Heroes, Cops and Kids, whose members dress as superheroes to cheer up kids at charity events. Last month, Cole read about a seven-year-old boy named Bryce Schottel on Facebook. Schottel lives in Illinois, is battling lymphatic cancer and has been in and out of the hospital since since February. He hasn't been able to go to school. Instead, he's been undergoing chemotherapy and other medical procedures.

As a mom, I can't even begin to imagine the suffering this little guy has gone through and so I think what happened next is pretty extraordinary.

Officer Cole was touched by the little boy's story and after learning that he's a huge Superman fan, Cole devised a plan. He would put on his Superman costume, hop in his sports car which just so happens to be detailed with the Superman insignia and drive the 11 hours to visit Schottell.

Cole took three days of his vacation time and spent his own money to make the trip. Schottell was thrilled and so was Cole, who gave the little boy a tour of Superman's car, showered him with gifts and played video games with him. Cole says, "If I can make that little kid's day, I don't care if I have to drive to New York or Maine or Seattle. Why not do it? I'm not rich, I'm not famous, but kids light up when they see me in the car and the costume."

As you'd imagine, Schottel's parents were over the moon for their little guy. His father Brian says, "You don’t see it every day – people like Damon who will take time away from their family to help a sick kid. Even if it’s just to hear that ‘wow.’ If the world had more people like that, we might be in a better place."
