The blaze at Brozzetti's Pizza at 72 Baldwin Street was reported around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

When firefighters arrived at the business next to Wilson Medical Center, they found a fire inside a duct above a pizza oven.  The duct extends through the roof into an exhaust fan.

The fire extended beyond the ductwork into the framing of the fan. Johnson City fire marshal Paul Hlebica said the blaze was brought under control within ten minutes.

Hlebica said fire damage was confined to the shop's first floor kitchen area and the roof above it. The investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing.

A handwritten sign in the door of Brozzetti's Pizza late Wednesday simply read "CLOSED." There was no indication as to when the business is expected to reopen.

The phone to the shop's order line went unanswered. Attempts to reach Brozzetti's representatives were unsuccessful.

Brozzetti's Pizza has been in business since 1949.
