Binghamton police say a Vestal woman who worked for NYSEG died after she became trapped under a company van.

Investigators say 51-year-old Katherina Bobier was pronounced dead at the scene of Wednesday afternoon's incident.

Police were called to 73 Decatur Street in the far southeast corner of the city around 2:55 p.m.

Authorities say responding officers found Bobier pinned under the company van.

Medics responded to the scene and pronounced Bobier dead, investigators explain.

Detectives say the incident is "noncriminal in nature" and is being investigated as a workplace accident. They provided no information about the circumstances that caused Bobier to become trapped under the vehicle.

Binghamton police were assisted in their investigation by the Broome County Sheriff's Office accident reconstruction unit.

A section of Decatur Street was closed for several hours after the incident.

People with information about the incident may contact the Binghamton police detective bureau at (607) 772-7080.
