A recent report by BetMGM looked at what Formula 1 drivers and  which drivers are the most popular in each state. It turns out that Sergio Perez is the most popular driver with Formula 1 racing fans in New York.

BetMGM took a look at Google Trends search data from May 2022 to May 2023. They wanted to find out what current Formula 1 drivers are the most popular in each state, and Perez was the big winner in New York.

Most Popular Formula 1 Drivers By State

Max Verstappen, the 2021 and 2022 Formula 1 World Champion, was the most popular driver in Florida. That isn't surprising because the Miami Grand Prix takes place there. Verstappen was also a fan favorite in other Southern states like Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia.

In Texas, home to The Austin Grand Prix, Perez wasn't just the most popular driver in the state but also the most searched for F1 racer in Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Wyoming.

And in Nevada the home state of the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was the most popular driver with F1 fans. Hamilton is known for holding the joint record with seven World Drivers' Championship titles and was also the favorite in Colorado, Maryland, and Ohio.

NASCAR may be yesterday's news as Formula 1 seems to be taking the United States by storm, and it's exciting to see how the sport is growing. To see the most popular Formula 1 driver in every state, go here.
