It looks like New York is not exactly winning the race when it comes to improving their broadband access. A recent study found that we're lagging behind, coming in 35th place nationwide. That is nothing to be proud about, that's for sure.

While other states like Arkansas are making big leaps and bounds in the broadband world, we are taking our time in the slow lane. The Empire State has only a 5% increase in households getting connected over the past four years.

In this day and age, having reliable internet is like having a lifeline to education, healthcare, job opportunities, and staying in touch with others. In this modern world, the internet is a must for practically everyone.

But it looks like many New Yorkers are still missing out on those crucial connections. Sure, around 622,877 more households in New York now have broadband, but that number pales in comparison to the progress seen in other states like Arkansas, Alabama, and Kentucky.

When we zoom into certain areas in  New York, the picture gets clearer. Places like Yates County are feeling the digital gap more than others, with only a 2% increase in broadband connectivity. On the other side, Hamilton County is showing us how it's done with an 11% jump.

These findings point to the need for us to step up and help close the digital divide in the Empire State. If you want to see how the other 49 states performed, it can check it out here.
