MattressNextDay did a sleep report that spills the beans on our sleep habits, and it is eye-opening! Before we get to that, first things first. It seems like a good night's sleep is a bit of a struggle for many of us.

Can you believe that the average New Yorker only gets about five to six hours of sleep per night? That's barely enough time to catch up on your favorite TV shows, let alone recharge your batteries!

So, what's keeping us awake at night? According to the report, over half (52%) of us wake up two or three times during the night. You may not believe the reasons behind our midnight awakenings. See which ones apply to you.

Reasons Why We Wake Up During the Night

The top culprit is good old thirst!  I thought for sure the numero uno reason would be a bathroom walk or run but 33% of us wake up because we are in need of a drink.

The next biggest reason for our nighttime wake up is that our bedroom is too hot. That wasn't my guess either but with all those radiators going during the winter, it's like we're stuck in a sauna! About 31% of us wake up feeling sweaty and uncomfortable. Who needs a gym membership when you can sweat it out in your sleep, right?

Now, let's talk about bedtime routines. You know those sleep experts who tell you to give up caffeine and screens before bed? It turns out that we're not really listening because 29% of us admit to chugging down some caffeine right before hitting the hay.

Here's another problem, 67% of us are guilty of scrolling through our phones or binge-watching shows up to an hour before bedtime. Who needs sleep when there are memes to be shared and tv show to be binged.

Oh, and here's a fun fact: 40% of New Yorkers enjoy having a late-night snack in bed. After all, who needs a dining table when you have a comfy mattress, right? Just make sure to keep the crumbs away from the sheets...or at least your side of the bed.

Speaking about our partners. Some of you are lucky enough to share a bed with someone special, while others prefer sleep separation. The report found that 14% of us decide to sleep in a separate room from our partner because of snoring or other sleep-related issues.

We all know that a good night's sleep is a game-changer, so if that means finding a new cuddle buddy (or a lack thereof), so be it!

Sleep In A Snow Globe In New York

The host of this New York Airbnb calls it a bubble tent but to me it looks like a snow globe. Either way its cool, it's unique and it's available to rent.
