So when is it the most dangerous time on the road in the Empire State? According to recent research, the most dangerous time to drive in the state is between 6:00 pm and 6:59 pm. That hour is the peak time for fatal crashes in 10 states, including New York, Ohio, and North Carolina.

The study was conducted by personal injury lawyer Scott Vicknair, and he took a look at data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration between 2017 and 2022. He found that between 6:00 pm and 6:59 pm, over 6% of all the 5,889 fatal crashes in New York happened.

This might come as a surprise but it's important for New York drivers to be aware this and pay attention to the road. Rush hour traffic, being tired, and distractions are big factors toward causing these accidents during that time.

It's not just New York drivers who need to be cautious, because the study showed the most dangerous times to drive in every state. In 12 states, 5:00 pm to 5:59 pm was the most dangerous time, while 8:00 pm to 8:59 pm was the peak period in seven states.

Believe it or not but 9:00 pm to 9:59 pm was the deadliest hour on the road in seven states, including Texas, Georgia and South Carolina. Overall, the most dangerous time to drive was between 6:00 pm and 6:59 pm, with almost 6% of all fatal crashes between 2017 and 2022.
