Well 2012 is now officially in the rear-view mirror.  With 2013 here, that means new laws have gone into effect.  Here's some of the more weird and odd ones.

In Michigan, Illinois and California: Employers can no longer force employees to provide their passwords to their social media accounts.  I know someone who has two Facebooks.  A real one, and the one that makes him look like a saint.  Guess which one the boss has the password to.

In Illinois: any person riding a motorcycle and popping a wheelie while speeding will be subjected to a $1,000 fine when they are caught by police.  Some states will do anything to get additional money.  Don't believe me, then how else do you explain New York's court fee.  I've been told that even if your charge gets dropped, you still owe the court fee (which can be more than the ticket itself.)

Oregon: Employers are no longer allowed to post a job opening, unless they're willing to hire the unemployed......I'm speechless to that one. California: It's not a law but its worth mentioning. The California Supreme Court has ruled 6-1 that people who ride the bumper cars at amusement parks cannot sue those parks because they got bumped during the ride. Obviously someone tried it, but what astonishes me is that one judge said it was ok to sue (That makes me shake my head.)

Finally, Florida:  It's now okay to warn other drivers of speed traps by flashing your headlights.  For the longest time, I didn't know that it was illegal to do that in New York.  No, I didn't find out the hard way.  I always thought it was a little unfair, that the police could set up a speed trap but you couldn't let others know about it legally.  I would drive around the corner, look in the rear-mirror and flash away.  I felt like a BAD boy because I was thumbing my nose to authority.

These are just a few new laws.  New York has added over 400 new laws this year alone because we just don't have enough laws in the Empire State.  By the way if the long arm of the law is reading this, I made up the part about flashing the lights.  Which reminds me, isn't it ironic how the colors Red, White and Blue represent freedom....until they're flashing behind you.
