As Broome County's COVID-19 death toll continues to rise, another "hotspot" for coronavirus has been revealed.

County Executive Jason Garnar Monday afternoon announced the death of a woman in her 80s due to the coronavirus. He released no additional information about her.

Garnar said Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has been identified as the fourth "hotspot" in the county. Other previously-announced hotspots are the Broome County Jail in the town of Dickinson, the Susquehanna Nursing Center in Johnson City and the United Methodist Homes Hilltop Campus in Johnson City.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Broome County has increased to 215. According to a county database, there still are 155 active cases. 49 people who had been diagnosed with the coronavirus have recovered.

The city of Binghamton now has 64 confirmed cases and the village of Johnson City has 48 cases.

Earlier in the day, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that 478 people died in New York state due to COVID-19 over the past 24 hours. That brought the official coronavirus death toll in the state to 14,347.
