There is a heat advisory in our area today (August 10th) from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. with temperatures in the 90's. It looks like it'll be like that for the rest of the week before cooling into the upper 70's for the weekend.

So if you don't feel like doing anything but you that makes you feel guilty then I have the answer for you...at least for today. Today is "National Lazy Day." It's a day to honor and enjoy a nice lazy day of doing nothing at all.

If you thought being lazy was bad then listen to what Bill Gates had to say, "I will always choose a lazy person to do a hard job, because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it." If it's good enough for Gates then it's good enough for me...especially if it fits my narrative.

So let this holiday be a day to forget the work, chores, and errands and let your mind and body relax and enjoy something cold. If you are still feeling guilty, you could end your busy day of doing nothing with some ice cream that helps out a good cause.

Children's Home in Hillcrest Ice Cream Social

The Children's Home in Hillcrest is having their 62nd annual ice cream social today from 5 to 8 p.m. This is a great way to end this lazy day holiday with free ice cream and cake (donations accepted) with pony rides, karate demonstrations, and live music.

You also won't want to miss an auto extrication demonstration by the Hillcrest Fire Company at the ice cream social. They will be cutting up a vehicle and removing people from the damaged vehicle. You don't want to miss this.

I know my daughter, Tara looks forward to this every year and we were disappointed last year when the pandemic changed the way they had to do their event. It's hot, and we are lazy (today), so let's cool down in a cool way with ice cream.
