New Yorkers Get Creative to Beat the Heat without Breaking the Bank
It's no secret that air conditioning can really drain your wallet, especially during these scorching summer days. But New Yorkers are finding ways to stay cool without breaking the bank.
According to a recent study by BadCredit.org, nearly half of New Yorkers (45%) are planning to cut back on our air conditioning use this summer. This is close to the national trend of 47% that the rest of the country will be doing. So how do we stay cool when the temperatures are hot?

Fans are the top pick for 57% of New Yorkers. This is an energy-efficient option that can deliver a refreshing breeze while keeping costs down. For those looking to escape the heat, about 12% are going to public places like malls or libraries to chill out in the AC for free.
Another smart move? Have yourself an ice-cold drink to beat the heat, with 12% of respondents taking to this cool strategy. By the way, 7% are finding relief with a good old-fashion cold shower.
Health Impact of Reducing Air Conditioner Use
Don't forget about the health impact of using your air conditioner less. One in three New Yorkers reported health issues because of the excessive heat at home. To prevent this, nearly half of the respondents (46%) said they would crash at a friend's or family member's place with air conditioning.
When it comes to summer vacations, New Yorkers are looking for cooler places to go to. Two out of three Americans are considering more temperate spots instead of the usual beach getaways.
Here is a surprising stat from the study? 80% of respondents believe that having an air conditioning should be a human right. I have to admit that I don't know ANYBODY personally that believes that.
