The Most Dangerous Jobs in New York
Whether you're working with heavy machinery or outdoors, there are some jobs in New York that need something extra and not everyone has it. Here are some of the most dangerous jobs you can have in New York.
This is no surprise to me as the number one most dangerous jobs are the three F's: farming, fishing, and forestry. That's three industries rolled into one and they face all sorts of potential problems like outdoor exposure, dangerous chemicals, unpredictable weather, and heavy machinery mishaps. There are 23.5 fatalities for every 100,000 workers, that is no walk in the park.
The transportation and material moving industry is next up with an average of 14.6 deaths for every 100,000 workers. Yikes! Whether you're driving a truck or working with heavy machinery, the problems can come fast and furious. Car crashes, falls, and accidents can happen in the blink of an eye.
Construction work isn't far behind, with 13 fatalities for every 100,000 workers. Working with heavy machinery, handling hazardous materials all are part of this job. Next on the list is Protective Services. They risk their lives to protect others and they face threats of physical violence, injury, and sometimes death. With 10.2 deaths per 100,000 workers, they are our everyday heroes.
Finally on the list of most dangerous jobs is the installation, maintenance, and repair industry, along with the building and grounds cleaning and maintenance industry. Grounds cleaning and maintenance sees almost 9 fatalities per 100,000 workers, while the installation industry comes in at 7.1.
From falls to exposure to harmful chemicals, these jobs may not be glamourous or high profile, but they are important to keeping our community together..
