Major Traffic Delays Expected Due to Presidential Visit
Last week, there were rumors that perhaps a presidential visit was in the cards for the Binghamton area, but it wasn’t meant to be. Instead, President Donald J Trump will host a rally at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre during the evening hours of Thursday, August 2nd.
The rally is expected to begin at 7 p.m., with doors for the event opening at 4 p.m. If you’d like to attend this event, you will need a ticket and can get one for free at www.donaldjtrump.com. However, tickets will not guarantee your entry as this is a first-come, first-served event. All seating is general admission, there will be no reserved seats.
Wilkes-Barre authorities have released several traffic advisories. They tell travels to expect traffic to be especially congested from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Mohegan Sun Arena, including Highland Park Blvd., Exit 168 of Interstate 81, Route 309, and Mundy Street around the Wyoming Valley Mall.
Travelers also need to be aware that Highland Park Boulevard from Schechter Drive to Mundy Street including Exit 168 (Interstate 81 on/off ramps) will be closed to all traffic and remain closed throughout the duration of the event. The closures are expected to take place from roughly 5:00 p.m. to approximately 9:00 p.m. Additionally, Interstate 81 will experience a 10-mile closure just before and right after the rally.
If you will be attending the rally, the Mohegan Sun Arena parking lot will open at 12 p.m., not before. As a matter of fact, no vehicles will be allowed on-site in the general parking lot until they open at 12 p.m. Parking in the Mohegan Sun parking lot will be $10 and the only form of payment that will be allowed is cash. From 5 p.m. until the conclusion of the rally, no vehicles will be allowed to enter the parking lot from Highland Park Boulevard.
