Maine-Endwell Educator Honored At The State Teacher Of The Year Celebration

Mrs. Murat is a teacher at the Maine-Endwell School District and. she was one of the educators that were invited to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Murat was on-hand to represent Maine-Endwell and the teachers of New York.

They were able to get a tour of the West Wing and then got to meet and get their picture taken with Dr. Biden in the Kennedy Garden. During the ceremony, Dr. Biden asked them to reflect on the people that influenced them and to think about the influence that they have made on other students' lives.

I think about the teachers that made a difference in my life at Northeast Bradford. For instance, I think about my 4th-grade teacher, Mrs. Schooner. She allowed me and a few of my friends to write our very own play and let us perform it for the class. We were ghosts that wanted to help and make our world a better place. NO, there is no recording of the play...thank goodness.

I think of my history teacher, Mrs. Thompson who let me do a report on Gengis Khan like a newscast...complete with commercials that included a Van Scoy Diamond Mine commercial. I donned a wig and sang the Van Scoy Diamond Mine commercial and once again, I'm thrilled that there are no recordings of that either.

Mrs. Murats thought of her father, who had been an educator for over 35 years, and she also thought of the thousands of Spartans who she learned from as they spent time together in the classroom.

Mrs. Murats, we want to thank you for helping to make and shape the lives of so many young people in our area. Thank you for paving the way and making a difference in ways that you may never realize.
