The City of Binghamton has issued a series of advisories regarding snow removal, snow parking and garbage pickup:

Off-Street Parking: Motorists should park off-street as much as possible to allow for proper snow removal.

Free Off-Street Parking Available: Until the roads are reasonably clear, free parking is available in the City’s downtown parking ramps and in the parking lots of City parks.

Strict Enforcement of Alternate Side of the Street Parking: The Police Traffic Division will be enforcing *Alternate Side of the Street Parking rules apply to allow for proper snow removal. Vehicles parked illegally are subject to ticketing and towing.

Today’s Waste Pick-Up Canceled: Today’s garbage and recycling pick-up (West Side) has been canceled to ensure the City has enough staff removing snow. The next pick-up for the West Side will be Thursday, January 3rd. The rest of the waste pick-up schedule remains as it was. (Citizens are reminded that next week’s Tuesday pick-up will be on Monday due to the New Year’s Holiday. That is the only change to next week’s pick-up schedule.)

Sidewalk Snow/Ice Removal: Citizens are responsible for removing snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of their property. Dumping snow into City streets is illegal.

*Alternate Side of the Street Parking includes the following guidelines

  • On even calendar days, park on the even side of the street until 5:00pm, at which point you should park for the next day.
  • On odd calendar days, park on the odd side of the street until 5:00pm, at which point you should park for the next day. (NOTE: consecutive odd calendar days occur twice: December 31st/January 1st and January 31st/February 1st.)
  • Alternate Side Parking rules apply to all City streets, including those with parking on one side only.
  • Streets with no parking on either side remain no parking zones. In these cases, Alternate Side Parking does not apply.
