Cruiser Of Fallen Johnson City Police Officer Finds New Home at Discovery Center
Does the date, March 13th, 2014 ring a bell? For some, it will be a day that will never be forgotten. That was the day that Patrolman David W. Smith Jr. was killed in the line of duty. After the incident, the Johnson City Police Department retired his patrol car and now it's found a new home.
The JC Police Department has gotten together with The Discovery Center and patrolman DW Smith's retired JCPD Car #712 is going to The Discover Center Story Garden. I think this is an awesome way to honor one of our fallen men in blue.
Officer DW Smith's Retired Patrol Car
Ptl. Smith's patrol car has been refurbished by students from SUNY Morrisville and the vehicle will be modified for the exhibit at the Story Garden. Car 712 will be on display along with a police station and garage built by Broome-Tioga BOCES students.
So many people have contributed to this project so that the kids can learn through play. Many of us will remember his sacrifice with this great tribute to officer DW Smith. It's a wonderful way to keep his memory alive and an opportunity for others to learn his story too.
As of now, the exhibit remains under construction but their hope is to have it ready to go for the public before the year is through. The Discovery Center is located at 60 Morgan Road in Binghamton.
