It feels like every time that we go to social media or turn on the television, we see another mass shooting event. We recently passed the one year anniversary of the Buffalo mass shooting at a Tops grocery store.

ABC News has reported that their have been more mass shootings than days in 2023. Whenever I hear a loud unexpected noise, I almost always fear the worst. We wonder what we can do next? I pray for protection for any place that my family goes to including work, school and church.

I'm reminded of the time that we had a Active Shooter Response meeting at work and what we should do in the case of a shooting event. A trained police officer went over the different steps that we should take.

I was grateful for the meeting and I learned a lot of things that I hadn't thought about before. You have an opportunity to be prepared on what you should do if confronted with an active shooter event.

Johnson City Police Department Offering Civilian Response To Active Shooter Event

The Johnson City Police Department is offering an educational course that can help you, if you find yourself in this situation. It's the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (C.R.A.S.E.)

It's designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy to help you survive an active shooter event. The course is open to the public and free to attend. Registration is required for each person that is attending and space is limited.

They are offering a class on Tuesday, May 23rd in the Johnson City High School Auditorium at 6 p.m. If you can't make it, they'll be having more in the future. If your business or organization would like a C.R.A.S.E. course in the Johnson City area, you can fill out a request form here.

We've seen the pictures and until we fix our nation's morality, it won't be going away. Like it or not, this is the world that we live in today. Be prepared and pray that you never have to use this information.
