Vacations Have New York Workers Thinking About Quitting

A vacation can give you mental rest and forget about work. It can also give you time to think about whether you really want to return to your job. For workers across New York State, that time away may bring some big career questions.

More Than Half Think About Quitting

Resume.io surveyed 600 workers across the country. More than half said they have thought about quitting their jobs while on vacation. The study was national and did not provide separate numbers for New York. Still, this may sound familiar to many workers in the Empire State.

Some Search for Jobs on Vacation

Nearly three in five workers said they have looked at job openings while on vacation. Some were just looking, but more than one in four took the next step and applied for a job during their trip. 43% of workers said they fully stayed away from work and job hunting while on vacation.

Younger Workers Are More Likely to Look

Gen Z workers were the most likely to search for another job while away. Close to 80% of Gen Z workers looked at job listings or searched for work during a vacation. That compares to 40% of Gen X workers.

The Feeling Does Not Always Last

Sometimes, a vacation thought is just that...a vacation thought. About half of workers said the urge to quit went away after they returned to work. However, 30% started searching for a new job, and about 5% actually quit.

A Sign to Pay Attention

Time away from work can help people see their jobs more clearly. If you spend your New York getaway scrolling through job listings instead of relaxing, it might be worth asking yourself why.
