Johnson City police say more than a dozen people are expected to face charges following a protest outside the Wegmans store on Harry L. Drive.

The demonstration was held in response to the killing of Tyre Nichols in Memphis and the violent arrest of a Binghamton man.

According to a Johnson City police department news release, about 50 people participated in the protest on Wegmans property.

The release indicated Wegmans had called village police for help because "they did not want the event to take place on their property." The police department reported protesters ignored directives by store employees to leave the site.

According to the news release, officers advised participants and reporters to leave and "anyone not in compliance was guilty of trespass."

These are the people who were arrested, according to the Johnson City Police Department: Angela Kennedy-Richardson of Binghamton; Nichole Baisley of Endicott; Courtney Hollenbeck of Maine, N.Y.; Sarah Faber of Binghamton; John Cook of Endicott; Masai Andrews of Endicott; Shanel Boyce of Binghamton; Teresa Weathers of Binghamton; Robert Wilson of Binghamton; Matthew Ryan of Binghamton; Samuel Whalen of Binghamton; Marissa Robinson of Binghamton; Carinne Vizvary of Binghamton; and Grace Widercrantz of Binghamton. Ryan is a former mayor of Binghamton.

Police said a 17-year-old boy also was arrested. His name was not released.

According to the news release, "more charging information will be released as the incident is sorted out."

Police added: "No follow up questions or interview requests will be taken at this time. We will be releasing additional information in the coming days."
