Ithaca College Freshman Killed in Crash

A graduate of Newark Valley High School, who was also Ithaca College freshman and daughter of two Ithaca College employees, is dead following a crash in Tompkins County.

Sheriff’s officials say 19-year-old Kelly Ann Perkins was headed back to college from her home in Berkshire at around 7:30 a.m. March 4 when her car collided with a pickup truck on Valley Road in the Town of Caroline.

Authorities say the teen apparently lost control on the snowy road and crossed into the path of the truck.

A statement was issued by the college expressing shock over the student’s death.

Ithaca College President Shirley Collado said “this is devastating news and I ask that you please join me in holding Enoch and Debbie and their son, Eric (Perkins) in our thoughts and hearts.”

The freshman was in the professional program in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance and a student employee in Residential Life and Parking Services.
