The next few weeks is a peak time to start a garden in the Southern Tier.  The weather, the calendar and new plants all come together for a good time to plant before muggy conditions begin.

There are many advantages to a raised garden bed.  One, it's easier to control weeds and pests.  With you controlling the soil, your plants are more likely to do better with ideal soil conditions that will surely produce higher vegetable and fruit yields.

I thought building one myself would be a hassle but not so.  There are a few do's and don't but in all, pretty much anyone can build a raised garden on the cheap.  Here's how:
