If you’re at work today and you hear people talking about a Harbaugh brothers Super Bowl, but you don’t know much about football, here’s what you need to know so you can be part of the conversation and sound informed:

  • The reason the Super Bowl is being called the Harbaugh brothers Super Bowl is because the Ravens and the 49er’s are both headed to the Super Bowl.  Jim Harbaugh is head coach of the 49ers" for the 49ers and John Harbaugh is head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. The brothers made history when their teams met on Thanksgiving Day, in a nationally televised game won by the Ravens. The Ravens overwhelmed the 49ers with a vicious pass rush and won the game, 16-6. The father of Jim and John Harbaugh is JIM, a former college football player and coach, who said he had trouble watching his sons coach against each other on Thanksgiving.
  • Super Bowl 47 is set, with the Baltimore Ravens taking on the San Francisco 49ers in two weeks in New Orleans.
  • New Orleans is bracing for record crowds, as the Super Bowl will draw tourists in at the same time as Mardi Gra. Locals are calling the mega-event, "Super Gras." Smaller hotels that usually go for $300 to $500 a night are charging $800. Rooms at some major hotels are up to $2,000 a night. This will be New Orleans' 10th Super Bowl and the first one in the city since Hurricane Katrina ripped off the roof of the stadium and flooded surrounding streets in 2005.

And if you really wanna sound like you know what you’re talking about, here’s another hot football topic from this weekend:

  • CBS commentator Shannon Sharpe ripped into New England coach Bill Belichick for refusing to give a post-game interview when the Patriots lost to the Ravens last night.  He said, quote, "Bill Belichick makes it real easy for you to root against the Patriots.  You can't be a poor sport all the time.  You're not gonna win all the time.  And he does this every time he loses.  It is unacceptable."
