Governor Cuomo Announces Public Health Corps Fellowship Program

A new program that will provide 1,000 full time paid positions through local health departments, other regional health departments, and the New York State Department of Health has been established.

According to a news release from the Governor’s office, the New York State Public Health Corps Fellowship Program is looking for individuals to assist with COVID-19 response, including vaccination efforts, and response to future public health emergencies.

Applicants will have to complete an online course to receive public health credentials from Cornell University in order to be accepted into the Fellowship Program.

In the release Cuomo said The COVID pandemic ambushed New York and upended our lives, and one of the greatest lessons we've learned is that we need to act now and be prepared for the next public health crisis."

Selections to the program would include recent graduates and advanced students in health studies, Individuals from health programs, nurses, medical professional, both active and retired, and other New York State residents with similar qualifications.

Cornell University along with other SUNY institutions  will be the catalysts for the Public Health Corps Fellowship Program setting up the qualification efforts throughout the state.

In the news release Cornell University President Dr Martha Pollack was quoted as saying "The Public Health Corps presents an excellent opportunity to share Cornell University's educational resources in a way that benefits fellows in the New York State Public Health Corps. Cornell University is proud to partner with New York State to train up to 1,000 fellows so that they are ready to serve their local communities in this current and future public health emergencies."
